Therapist. Coach. Speaker. Advocate for Soul Healing.
Kelly R. Thompson is a licensed professional counselor associate, supervised by Dr. Carole Gilmore, PhD, LPC-S. She has also worked with severely dysregulated children and their families through intensive in-home services—supporting emotional stabilization, behavioral regulation, and family restoration. With decades of ministry experience rooted in The Potter’s House of Dallas, her family’s global ministry, Kelly offers a powerful blend of clinical expertise, spiritual insight, and compassionate leadership in every space she enters. Kelly holds a Master’s degree in Counseling from Dallas Baptist University and a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Oral Roberts University. She was recently appointed as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Pepperdine University, contributing her clinical and faith-integrated expertise to the next generation of counseling professionals. Her outpatient psychotherapy work through Ready Path Psychotherapy centers on supporting Black Christian women and their families, helping them navigate life transitions, emotional challenges, and soul-deep healing. She is also passionate about serving leaders and their families, offering a safe, private space to process struggles and rediscover purpose. In addition to therapy, Kelly offers one-on-one and group coaching through Ready Path Coaching, where she supports women navigating major life transitions, burnout, and identity shifts. Her coaching approach blends faith-based encouragement with practical strategies, empowering clients to clarify their values, set meaningful goals, and move forward with confidence and purpose. As the author of Black Women Can Do Therapy: Your Therapeutic Roadmap to Breakthrough, Kelly is committed to breaking mental health stigmas and creating culturally affirming pathways to wellness. Her unique voice—shaped by her work in faith-based mental health (including serving as a panelist at the International Leadership Summit), surgical menopause education (through moderating the Surmeno Connection support group), creative arts (with her expressive health-focused art exhibited in Duke University’s Summer of Storytellers), and global radio (as a host whose show reached audiences from Dallas to Pakistan)—makes her a trusted guide for those seeking both emotional clarity and spiritual connection. Whether in the therapy room, on stage, or behind a microphone, Kelly offers a warm, honest, and deeply soulful presence. Her mission is simple yet powerful: to help people move from surviving to living, rooted in faith, values, and authentic healing.

She uses both her extensive experience, scholarly disciplines and biblical knowledge to bring you to the place of wholeness. This threefold chord will strike a unique note with all women but is focused on the unique nuances of women of color. The goal isn’t about perfection that would be audacious. "As a therapist, I found this to be an easy read and it answers lots of questions first time therapy seekers might have. This is a great resource for people who aren’t sure where to start, or just trying to navigate the maze of getting help. We all need help at some point, and this roadmap is a much-needed GPS."

"I am a black women who recognizes the need for therapy. This book is so relevant and needed. Yes black women can do therapy! Kelly R Thompson helps us to recognize “layered pain” and how we must address it. This sentence really resonates with me, “Has it ever occurred to you that mental illness does not disappear because we refuse to deal with it.” This book is so thoughtfully written and speaks to issues we can relate to. Get this book!"

"Think of this book as a myth-buster of everything you thought you knew about therapy. Ok, I know the title says “black women” but I’d recommend this book to anyone who cringes at the idea of a “shrink”. Kelly displays her expertise and knowledge in the field by providing a historical context and insights of the stigma of therapy in the Black community specifically. But I would argue that anyone can read it. additionally she provides tools and resources to assist in your self awareness. This book is a powerful starting point for those interested in taking charge of their mental well being and can serve as a ‘refresher’ for seasoned therapy attendees!!"
